A training class on IP risk for cross-border e-commerce was held at Hangzhou Urban Construction Cultural Center in the morning of October 12, 2018. The class was sponsored by Hangzhou Cross-Border E-Commerce Comprehensive Pilot Area, and co-organized by Hangzhou Economic Development Zone Management Board and Hangzhou Arbitration Commission.

Cross-border e-commerce disputes involving intellectual property rights have been increasing this year. Sellers were fined for repeated infringement of intellectual property rights, and several brand owners and platforms were sued for the same reason. The purpose of the class was to let enterprises be aware of branding, help them build brands, and enhance people’s awareness of cross-border e-commerce protection of intellectual property rights. We hoped to encourage firms in new trading, new services, and new manufacturing sector to create a sound eco-chain by virtue of normalized activities, and to let more IP companies provide suggestions and services for cross-border e-commerce players in Hangzhou.

The training class was open to sellers on various cross-border e-commerce platforms. Comprised of five lectures, the class had lecturers from Hangzhou Customs, Zhejiang Higher People's Court, Hangzhou Internet Court, Hangzhou C&H IP Law Limited, and law firms and enterprises with overseas experience in handling intellectual property disputes. The first lecture was given by Wen Guodong, Head of the Legal Department of Hangzhou Customs, on the customs protection of intellectual property rights. The second one was an analysis of cases by Zhang Nan, Trial Chief of the Hangzhou Intellectual Property Court, focusing on trademark squatting, rights conflicts and parallel imports. The third lecturer was Guo Jianxia, a judge of Zhejiang Higher People's Court. She addressed the class on the issue of infringement and judicial orientation. In the afternoon, Zhu Yueying, Senior Consultant from Hangzhou C&H IP Law Limited, and Zhang Xiaofei, the top salesperson of AliExpress and the certified lecturer of AliExpress University, shared some cases on cross-border e-commerce intellectual property rights and brand infringement.

The training class ended as a success.
