The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (hereinafter referred to as the Cairo Center) is an independent and non-profit international organization that has been providing various ADR services since its establishment in the 1970s and has formulated corresponding ADR rules.

In January 1978, the 19th meeting of the Asian African Legal Consultative Committee (AALCC) decided to establish several arbitration centers in Asia and Africa. In January 1979, AALCC signed an agreement with the Egyptian government to establish the Cairo Center for a three-year trial period. In November 1983, AALCC signed an agreement with the Egyptian government to permanently establish the Cairo Center. In March 1986, AALCC signed an agreement with the Egyptian government to make a temporary arrangement for the financial support and management of the Cairo Center.

In December 1987, AALCC entered into a Headquarters Agreement with the Egyptian government, under which the Cairo Center enjoyed all privileges and immunities like all independent international organizations have in Egypt. In July 1990, the Cairo Center established the Arbitration and Investment Association, and in January 1991 set up the Arabian and African Association of Arbitrators in Egypt. In October 1992, the Cairo Center established the Maritime Arbitration Branch in Alexandria, and in June 2001 it further established the Alexandria International Arbitration Center there. In August 2001, the Cairo Center established a mediation and ADR center as its branch office.
