London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) was established to resolve international commercial disputes. It can accept international disputes of any nature submitted by the parties under an arbitration agreement.

London Arbitration Council was established on November 23, 1892, and was renamed London Court of Arbitration on April 2, 1903. It was administered by a joint committee of 12 representatives from the London City and the London Chamber of Commerce. London Court of Arbitration and Queen Chartered Arbitration were merged in 1975, and in 1978 a "London International Arbitrator List" consisting of experienced arbitrators from more than 30 countries was established. In 1981, it was renamed London International Court of Arbitration. This is the earliest established permanent arbitration institution in the world. It is now managed by a joint management committee composed of the City of London, the London Chamber of Commerce and the Queen's Chartered Association. The day-to-day work of the Court is the responsibility of the Queen Chartered Association. The president of the Arbitration Association is also the chairman of the Arbitration Council.

LCIA has established an important principle in the formation of the arbitrary tribunal, that is, in the commercial dispute between the parties involved in different nationalities, the sole arbitrator and the presiding arbitrator must be held by a person of neutral nationality. LCIA introduced the new London International Court of Arbitration Rules on January 1, 1985. After the formation of the tribunal, the arbitrary procedure should generally be conducted in accordance with the rules of LCIA, but at the same time the tribunal also allows the parties to agree to arbitrate in accordance with the procedures set out in the Arbitration Rules of the United Nations International Trade Commission. It is currently the UK's leading international commercial arbitration institution and can handle international disputes of any nature submitted to it, especially in international maritime cases.
